CAPSI Community Education – Community Outreach

The CAPSI Community Outreach program is a great way to get involved. It’s interactive and fun, while maintaining a professional image. There are numerous programs that operate throughout the school year and we are excited to announce the upcoming initiatives being run during the 2020-2021 academic calendar:

AIDS Vancouver – Information Pamphlet:

  • Develop an information pamphlet for the Vancouver Downtown Eastside Community, focusing on the following topics: flu season, proper face cover etiquette, modes of flu and COVID-19 transmission and difference between the flu shot and COVID-19 vaccination

Vancouver Eastside Elementary School:

  • Conduct educational workshops for kindergarteners focusing on the following topics: the role of a pharmacist, importance of hand washing and how to tell the difference between medication and candy

Parks Canada Healthy Living ABC Fitness Group:

  • Educate and raise awareness for how a pharmacist can support their patients during the COVID-19 pandemic

DTES Neighborhood House:

  • Conduct educational workshops on how to eat healthy on a budget

Vancouver Eastside High School:

  • Educate high school students on how to independently access healthcare and the long term impacts associated with use of party drugs and vaping

Social Solidarity in Isolation Initiative:

  • Providing residents of long term care facilities with virtual companionship through activities such as 1-on-1 skype calls and singalongs

Speaking with patients struggling with substance abuse:

  • Implementing an interactive event for healthcare students across UBC on how to speak with patients struggling with substance abuse. This event will consist of a panel discussion among healthcare professions and virtual small group discussion among attendees
